We have for sale an Antique Apothecary Sleeping Dog Cork Press
Absolutely beautiful 1800s Apothecary Cork Press.  Made of cast iron, has three graduated sizes cork compress areas largest being ¾" wide then ½" and ¼".
This is a special press with a quick look you see the sleeping dog atop the press, I believe it is a long-haired retriever with yellow painted eyes, but if you turn the handle towards you see a whole new animal a mythical dragon with red painted eyes and mouth its neck stretching down to the base and feet. A fun optical illusion.
The overall condition is wonderful; this item is around 150 years old a exceedingly rare find.
Cork Presses were used throughout the 1800s and early 1900s you would have found them in Pharmacy's and Drug stores across America.
You lift the handle and place a moistened cork into the press by pushing the handle down the cork would compress to the size bottle you needed it to fit.
Circa, 1870s
Measurements, Press 10" long, 3" wide.  Base 3 ¼" x 8 ½".
