    Description

    Here we have an
    Antique Ornate Cast Iron Apothecary Wine Cork Press 1800's Medical Chemist.
    The bottle cap wasn’t invented until the 1892 by the Crown Cork Co. of Baltimore, but not highly used until into the 1900s. Before the cap was introduced most all bottles had corks including Medicines, Perfumes & Alcohol.
    This Victorian period Cork Press was probably used by an Apothecary (Chemist) to compress corks for medical bottles, it has five different diameters and can be screwed down to a work surface.
    This example has no makers mark which is typical.  Lightly cleaned surface.  Minor rust marks here and there. This one has 6 sizes:  Three large fluted sizes + 3 small sizes with no flutes.  Base is 9” L.  No cracks, breaks or repairs.

    ost reproductions don’t have the screw holes in the feet and if you look at the bottom, they are flat and don’t have the support beam running the length of the press.
