This unusual pharmaceutical item is from the mid 19
th
Century.
Bolted to a counter, the crimper was used to form corks for bottles of medicine. Four different sizes from wide to narrow could be made with the crimper.
Made of cast iron, the piece is in excellent condition with a working hinge.
Some of the original red paint remains on the piece.
There appears to be lettering etched on the bottom of the crimper, but it is illegible.
