    Description

Antique Vintage Original Prescription Form For Medical Liquor - Issued Under Authority of the National Prohibition Act - U.S. Treasury Department Bureau of Prohibition. This Original SHOULD have been forwarded by the "druggist" to the office of the Prohibition Administrator. It is printed on fancy, beautiful paper! When holding this prescription up to the light, PROHIBITION is watermarked. This top Original was to be forwarded by the "druggist" to the Prohibition Administrator before the 10th day of the ensuing month. Printed on the back are a few paragraphs of "Instructions"; fascinating information and great reading. This Rx is numbered E148269 (all were individually sequentially numbered). This was Prescribed on 11/21/1929 for a patient in Higbee, Missouri, by a Physician in Kansas City, Missouri. It was Filled and Canceled on 11/21/1929 (it would be INVALID AFTER 3 DAYS) by a "Druggist" in Kansas City, Missouri. During Prohibition, the U.S. Treasury Department authorized physicians to write prescriptions for medicinal alcohol. This privilege was one of the few legal exceptions to the 13-year ban on producing, selling, and distributing alcohol, initiated in 1920 by the 18th Amendment. The National Prohibition Act enforced the ban and allowed farmers to produce wine for their own consumption and priests, ministers, and rabbis to serve it during religious ceremonies. This prescription measures 5 1/2" by 4 1/2". This is a FANTASTIC piece of Higbee, Kansas City, Missouri, and U.S. Prohibition history and would be great to display. This is a ONE-OF-A-KIND find. This is from a smoke-free home. This is from the B&D Collection. All reasonable offers will be considered. Please ask about payment options and delivery/shipping options.
