Circa 1867 Enterprise Manufacturing Co. Lochman Cork Press No.1 for Apothecary Use!
I am listing three great items from the estate of a family that owned and operated an apothecary in the late 1800's to early 1900's.  Make sure that you view my complete auction listings to see these great pieces as well as several other early apothecary items that I have listed!
This is a C. L. Lochman's 1867 patented cork press No. 1 manufactured by Enterprise Mfg. Co. of Philadelphia, Pa.  It is cast Iron and sits on a wood base that is
approximately 9 1/2" x 2 3/4" x 1 3/4".  It is designed to "... impinge upon the cork and squeeze it gradually to a smaller compass, ... and thereby keep it perfectly cylindrical."  This was aparently used in the apothecary to fit corks to the various bottles they used in dispencing their medicines!
