    Description

    This book is
The Missouri Archaeologist, Vol 38, Whole Volume, Dec. 1977
    . It contains one report.
"Investigation and Comparison of Two Fortified Mississippian Tradition Archaeological Sites in Southeastern Missouri: A Preliminary Compilation." There are 17 chapters by different authors. These two sites were judged to be two of the better preserved large fortified Mississippian towns at the time of investigation. One site is at Lilbourn, MO in New Madrid County where new school construction was about to impact the site. The other site is Towosahgy in Mississippi County, also know as Beckwith's Fort. The scan shows the large stone mace recovered from the Lilbourn Site, as it was found. Most of the report pertains to the Lilbourn Site.
The report include maps and photo illustrations of sites, and photos and drawings of artifacts.
