    Description

Great piece for a Philatelist and more specifically a tie to the Civil Rights battle and history in the United States.
This Series 1915 United States Internal Revenue One Cent Order Form For Opium, Etc. is unused and in very fine condition outside of an apocothary stain of some form encroaching on the lower left edge. What makes it truly unique is that it was from the office or clinic of Felix D. Booker. Mr. Booker was a front runner in the battle for Civil Rights in the United States. Mr. Booker along with fellow African American student Wesley McCoy were enrolled at Grand Rapids Medical College in Michigan. Although very fine students, they were told they could not return to classes as it was costing the college too much money from other white students leaving, or not enrolling in complaint of their presence on campus. Mr. Booker sued the college and the case was originally found in his favor in district court, however, later overturned by the Michigan Supreme Court who stated that a College that is not a "State" college has the right to determine what is in it's best interest in terms of accepting enrollment candidates. This particular law suit and legal decisions have often been referenced throughout history and within the United States Supreme Court. Felix D. Booker went on to complete his education including attending Kansas State University and became a succesful veterinarian in the Kansas City area. Very nice unique piece of history above and beyond it's Philatelic value for collectors.
