Description
Lithographed (not a paper label) round tin container for Belgum Ointment, still full of the original ointment, made by E. H. Hatfield, 522 Barney St, Waukesha, Wis. Tin measures 2 5/8" in diameter x 1 1/2". Original price was 35 cents and on the front shows a wonderful photo of Mr Hadfield. On the back it tells the different uses of the product, including for individuals a burn ointment, corns and frost bites. For live stock, use on sore teats on cows or sore shoulders on horses. Other uses listed. There is no date on the tin, but based on the claims made, the price and other factors, my guess is that this is from the early 1920's. Condition is acceptable, with some paint flaking on the front especially on the bottom and sides. Some minor rust on the sides of the tin. Back has lost its paint on the border but the words setting forth the different uses are still very readable. There is one other of these tins available on ebay, in not as good condition as my tin and priced much higher.
